Whether you’re new to TruGreen or a longtime customer, you’re likely aware of how much we value living life outside. As the weather warms, outdoor fun can quickly turn into a swat-fest when buzzing, biting mosquitoes attack. TruGreen is committed to helping our customers enjoy life outside without having to worry about biting pests. If you are wondering how to effectively get rid of mosquitoes in your yard or on your property, you’ve come to the right place.
Below are answers to some of our most frequently asked Mosquito Defense questions that will help clear up any lingering wonders as we transition from cooler temps to warmer weather that attracts mosquitoes. TruGreen experts are here to help by offering up advice on how to get rid of mosquitoes from your outdoor space.
How long does one TruGreen mosquito treatment last? How long before my family should return to our lawn?
One treatment lasts approximately a month. After a service, TruGreen advises customers to allow the application to dry before families and pets resume enjoying their outdoor living spaces. It will normally be dry 1-2 hours after treatment, but low temperatures, high humidity, low wind and cloudy conditions will increase the amount of time needed for the treatment to dry. As with all our services, it’s important that both people and pets stay off and out of treated areas and wait until the treatment has dried before enjoying your yard again.
What product does TruGreen use for Mosquito Defense?
TruGreen Mosquito Defense uses an innovative formula combined with a targeted application technique to significantly reduce the number of biting adult mosquitoes in your landscape. Mosquitoes seek shelter in mulch and landscaping to avoid sun during the day, so we target these areas to ensure we provide effective control.
When do mosquitoes begin to hatch?
Mosquito activity relies heavily on temperature. When temperatures outside reach 50 degrees in the evening, mosquitoes will begin to lay eggs, or previously laid eggs will begin to hatch. In short, when you’re ready to enjoy the outdoors, so are they.
What happens to mosquitoes during cold weather?
Though mosquito activity will be suppressed when temperatures drop below 50 degrees, mosquito populations will not be killed. These smart little pests will seek shelter from the cold in cracks and crevices in tree holes, leaf litter or nearby structures. Once the temperature rises above the 50-degree threshold, they will again become active -- and will likely be very hungry.
How will rain affect my recent mosquito spray application?
If you received a Mosquito Defense service and it rained, do not worry. Normal rainfall does not impact the effectiveness of your treatment. TruGreen specialists are using and applying products in the most effective way that will not be impacted by rain. Also, remember that your service is guaranteed, so if you find that you experience biting mosquitoes between regularly scheduled treatments, notify us and we will treat your property again at no additional charge.
What is the TruGreen Guarantee and what does it include?
We want you to live life outside and enjoy your yard to the fullest extent, which is why we’ll gladly perform a free re-service anytime you find yourself battling the bite between treatments. We’ll start by conducting a thorough inspection of your property for areas where mosquitoes are, or could be, living. Your specialist will then employ an innovative formula and targeted application technique to help control mosquitoes in your yard within 24 hours. We’ll treat your property every month to maintain your protection throughout the season.
What if my plants don’t have leaves yet, how will this affect my control of mosquitoes?
No leaves, no problem. The first mosquito spray treatment will start based on air temperatures being conducive to mosquito activity in your backyard. In many cases, this will be before all of the plants in the yard have produced leaves. Your specialist will apply the treatment to those areas that can provide early-season harborage such as the evergreens, potted or hanging plants, and bed areas containing mulch, ground covers or leaf litter.
This month the temperature has been colder than normal. Why did you treat my property for mosquitoes this week?
While several areas of the country experienced cooler than normal weather, once temperatures in the evening reach 50 degrees, mosquitoes will see humans as fair game. We need to ensure we provide effective control on your property at this time. Our applications are designed to last approximately 30 days between treatments, giving you and your family the protection you need for an entire month.
What is TruGreen Mosquito Defense and will it kill all the mosquitoes on my property?
No service can offer 100% protection from every mosquito, as it’s always a possibility that a mosquito from a neighboring property could wander into your yard before feeding on the treated foliage. However, you’ll find that the presence of mosquitoes will be significantly reduced once your yard is treated with TruGreen Mosquito Defense.
Besides TruGreen Mosquito Defense control and treatment plans, are there steps I can take to protect my family from mosquitoes?
Absolutely! You can learn mosquito prevention tips on our mosquito defense and control blog as well as at the Centers for Disease Control.
